What’s the Wishful Wings Program?

It’s simple: families, hospitals, and educators can create customized registries packed with our inclusive medical toys. These registries are designed to:

  • Prepare kids for upcoming procedures through hands-on medical play that turns the unknown into the understood.
  • Empower little heroes with chronic conditions by helping them see themselves represented in the toys they play with.
  • Equip hospitals and classrooms with playful tools to teach, comfort, and connect in moments that matter most.

What Hospitals are Saying About These Toys

UNC Health

Annabella

“Child life specialist do a lot of medical teaching, validation of patients with devices... so very glad this is available.”

Nicklaus Health

Jessica

“These products would mean the WORLD to our patients. Our patients benefit so much from relatable items and visual aids. These dolls would be extremely beneficial towards our teaching and normalization.”

Riley Children’s

Hannah

“Medical play has become one of the most popular activities for patients to engage in during their appointments and infusions at our outpatient hematology/oncology clinic. Patients with diagnoses such as leukemia, Pompe disease, and metabolic disorders benefit greatly from being able to rehearse, process, and debrief the many medical procedures and experiences that they undergo throughout their course of treatment. Through medical play, these patients augment their understanding of their diagnoses, express thoughts and emotions, and build resiliency that will help them throughout their course of treatment and beyond.”

Community Hospice

Danielle

“This would give the gift of non-threatening, developmentally appropriate play for our pediatric palliative and hospice patients and their siblings. Play is the language of children and these incredible medical play items will allow us to speak the same language. Our child life team works with patients from birth to 21 years old and even their parents benefit from this medical equipment. This important representation grants inclusion and allows favorite toys to look just like our kiddos. Thank you for this affordable equipment and consideration on the grant! This will bring hundreds hours of play and countless smiles and unconditional acceptance!”

Children’s National

Emily

“As a hematology/oncology/Bone Marrow Transplant child life specialist, medical procedures are part of the daily lives of many of the patients I work with. Having realistic items for the hospitalized child to engage with prior to these procedures greatly decreases their stress of what is to come and provides them with a greater sense of mastery. Having these medical play materials will allow me to educate my patients through the non-threatening avenue of play, aiding in their long-term coping.”

Notre Dame Healthcare

Allison

“These products mean so much to our patients. They are teaching tools that can help explain in developmentally friendly ways what goes on in their body. They provide inclusion, where children can see themselves and parts of their own life and care routines on their doll. They provide opportunities for positive coping through medical play where patients are able to act out their past and present medical experiences. Having unique toys like these in our tool box allows us to do our jobs better and properly prepare patients on our program for their medical journey.”

Miller Children’s Memorial Care

Erin

“I work in the NICU as a Child Life Specialist and often times support siblings at home learn about the medical equipment they see on their new baby brothers and sisters. As you can imagine, seeing their new sibling with all the wires and medical equipment can be overwhelming. I try and provide them with dolls with similar equipment to allow them to play with them and learn about the equipment. Allowing children to learn through play empowers them to cope within normal limits and bond with their new sibling. Having access to these items is often challenging. Receiving donations like this make a HUGE difference! A huge thank you to the Butterfly Pig and all your supporters!”
